Aprove of his plan

Thus a plan was made

Modernization (#2 Josexy)

ORIGINAL TEXT:

If you have tears, prepare to shed them now.

You all do know this mantle. I remember

The first time ever Caesar put it on.

'Twas on a summer’s evening in his tent,

That day he overcame the Nervii.

Look, in this place ran Cassius' dagger through.

See what a rent the envious Casca made.

Through this the well-belovèd Brutus stabbed.

And as he plucked his cursèd steel away,

Mark how the blood of Caesar followed it,

As rushing out of doors, to be resolved

If Brutus so unkindly knocked, or no.

For Brutus, as you know, was Caesar’s angel.

Judge, O you gods, how dearly Caesar loved him!

This was the most unkindest cut of all.

For when the noble Caesar saw him stab,

Ingratitude, more strong than traitors' arms,

Quite vanquished him. Then burst his mighty heart,

And, in his mantle muffling up his face,

Even at the base of Pompey’s statue,

Which all the while ran blood, great Caesar fell.

O, what a fall was there, my countrymen!

Then I, and you, and all of us fell down,

Whilst bloody treason flourished over us.

Oh, now you weep, and, I perceive, you feel

The dint of pity. These are gracious drops.

Kind souls, what, weep you when you but behold

Our Caesar’s vesture wounded? Look you here,

Here is himself, marred, as you see, with traitors.

MODERNIZED:

If you are going to cry, get ready to cry.
You all know this clak. I remember the first
time ever Caesar put it on.
It was on a summer's afternoon in his tent,
That day he beat the Nervii.
Look, here's where his dagger went through.
Look at the wound Casca left.
Brutus also stabbed him
And then took the knife out,
And look how the blood of Caesar also left his boddy
As leaving doors, to be resolved
If Brutus knocked on those doors.
For as you know, Brutus "loved Caesar".
But you have to see how Caesar loved Brutus.
That was the heartless stab of them all.
For when Caesar saw him stab him,
Ingratitude vanquished him. Then his heart burst
And his cloak muffling his face,
Even at the bottom of the statue of Pompey,
Which Caesar bled and fell.
Oh, he fell hard!
Then, we all went down,
While bloody revenge came over us.
Oh now you weep, and I think, you feel
The dint of pity. These are great drops.
Kind souls, what, do you weep after Caesar got stabbed?
Look, he is married with traitors.

Act IV Modernization

Page 822, Several Lines from 77-94.

Mark Antony (Modernized):
Caesar was a good friend to me; an honorable man. Brutus says that Caesar was ambition, and ambition is the reason for his death. When the poor asked Caesar's help, he was there for them. When he was offered the crown, he turned it down. Was he ambitious? Brutus is an honorable man as well, so I cannot dissagree with him; however I do think that Caesar was ambitious for the right reasons.

Explanation: The aftermath of Caesar's death was one of the most important scenes in the play where Caesar's true intentions were implied, and explained directly. The word "Ambition" was directly used in Antony's speech, when Mark Antony defends Caesar's intentions through this speech.
-SVB
Similie: Ambition is like candy because too much can make you sick.
Metaphor: Caesar is like Tupac because his ambition got him killed.

Ambition Songs

"All I Do Is Win" by DJ Khaled
All I do is win win win no matter what
Got money on my mind I can never get enough
and everytime I step up in the building
everybody hands go up
When I heard that we had this assignment the song "All I Do Is Win" was one of the first songs that came to mind. This song to me just sings ambition to me for many reason. The song talks about always winning no matter what and this definetly takes a lot of ambition. This reminds me of the conspirators because they are willing to do anything to come out on top. Throughout the story of Julius Caesar there are many examples of the conspirators showing ambition.
In this song they believe that always wining is good for not only them but for everyone around them. The conspirators believe that if they kill Caesar it will protect everybody from future threats if Caesar stays in power. In both the song and the play the sonpirators and DJ Khaled do what they do for the good of themselves and others. The conspirators did whatever they could to get brutus to join their side and in the end convinced him that it would be better if Caesar was killed. Thats one example of how this song and play relate in a major way. Both the song and the play show ambition to do whatever it takes to win.

Ambition Act 1 - Post 2

This video is from Act 1 of Julius Caesar. It is a condensed and animated version of Act 1 that shows from Caesar returning to Rome to Cassius giving Cinna the letter to be delivered to Brutus (act 1 ends at 4:50). It contains some of the quotes from the play, but makes some of the language more modern and easier to understand.

A detail the represents ambition is Cassius' soliloquy. He talks about how Brutus is noble but can be seduced to Cassius' way of thinking which shows Cassius' ambition to get Brutus on his side. Another detail is when Cassius, Casca, and Cinna meet during the storm. Cassius talks about how if Caesar were to become king, he would take his own life and he is also the one to make the letters that will be delivered to Caesar. This shows Cassius' ambition towards his goal of getting rid of Caesar and getting Brutus on his side. Cassius is a character that represents ambition in Act 1 because he has the ambition to get a group of conspirators against Caesar and he makes fake letters to give to Brutus and he tries to convince Brutus to go against Caesar. A quote that shows ambition in this video is "Well, Brutus, thou art noble; yet I see Thy honorable mettle may be wrought;". Cassius says this in his soliloquy, it means that he sees that Brutus is good but he has the ambition to change Brutus over to his side.
